Resident Evil 6

I can’t wait. I have been a fan of the series since I started gaming.

I still remember playing the first ever Resident Evil (a few years after its original release!) but I still remember it. I hadn’t experienced anything like this before. The feeling of fear, of being under prepared and just overall total immersion.

Since then it has been a long road.

Resident Evil 2 offered a very worthy successor then carrying on the story with Nemesis. After these original titles there was then a little gap. But no matter what happens in the timeline the story keeps on going, adding too and assisting with the diverse world that has been created. Even the Gamecube remakes were perfect additions to the franchise offering shadow engines and lack of ammunition that could keep you on edge for hours.

Resident Evil 5 went back to the idea of having a partner but in a different way it kept them much closer together. The original games all focus on more than one person (Chris and Jill, Claire and Leon and Jill and Carlos) but due to limitations at the time they weren’t offered as a 2-player experience.

So the first if the Next Gen games offered up this new style, playing together, watching each other’s back and generally facing hell together. Which worked. The firepower (arguably started in 4) also increased, which did remove a lot of the fear element, but did open it up to the mainstream audience. The opposite to this being Silent Hill Homecoming, keeping the fear and the iron bars but it not getting as much exposure for what was still a survival horror.

Resident Evil 6 is now the next installment (you may noticed that I haven’t eve mentioned Project Racoon and it will stay that way) and I can say that what I have seen it looks damn exciting.

Chris and Leon seem to form the front men, each on different campaigns but offering parrells and meetings throughout. Some of the latest teasers let even more slip, with the mention of ‘Sherry’ (William Birkin’s daughter who escaped Racoon in the second game) and the revealing of Wesker’s son. Which although with mixed feelings on the subject, I think excitement for this character wins overall.

The campaign takes on a global aspect, with Chris travelling the world fighting Bio-terror and Leon trying (but failing) to keep the Whitehouse safe from Biological Warfare. The catalyst being the Presidents opening up of the Racoon City incident in order to halt bio-terrorism and let everyone know that they are in control.

The game itself looks to be a stunner. The game play graphics are smooth and well textured (something that number 5 offered well) and also the movement, which could sometimes be a bit annoying looks to be well rounded with a few moves put in as seem from the clip of Leon fighting a good sized horde.

The enemies seems to be a mixture of good old fashioned zombies (yay!) and also something called ‘J’avo’ which seems to be a further development in the faster ‘infected.’ As they heal and organise attack plans it seems that they would be following the line of Weskers soldiers that are encountered towards the latter half of 5.

All of this is a bit vague at the moment but the game isn’t out until October. But the demo release has been announced for early September (or early July if you buy/brought Dragon’s Dogma.)

Overall this looks like it shaping up nicely, as more details come up I will make sure I post them as I’ll be keeping an eye on this one.
